I Wish

I Wish
I wish I were a quicker wit
Then I might not feel like a twit

I wish I were rich
Then life might not be a bitch
It would be a life of riley

I wish everything was easy
Life would be so breezy
But that would be no fun

I wish wishes came true
Then I would not be so blue
                    Most of the time

But if wishes were true
Then that would skew
Our view
Of the zoo
                    Called life

Painted so they glow

Was thinking about death today
In this peculiar way

Not of friends or family
Of those I would know
The passing of my cyber friends
Was the thought
That perturbed me

I would be sad
To lose my poetry buds
Their beautiful words
Would be no more

It would be a sad day
The world would be deprived
Of one who brought joy
With words
To so many

My thought was
How would I know
Of their demise
When our connection
Is through poetries eyes
On the Gplus site

So all of you
Poetry cyber friends
Please take care
For it’s sad to say
That one day
You will not be here
To bring joy
To us all

And I for one
Will rue that day
With great sorrow

Saint, miracle worker
Beloved by all Ireland
Never one to be a shirker
She inspired and
Was a server
To all, even those who shunned
Her, never dulling her fervour
For our Lord Jesus Christ, the ultimate server

All praise and glory To St. Brigid

Mom you were
My rock
My inspiration
My first love
A deeply loving caring soul

There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you

Adopted a baby boy
Gave him a family life
Taught me how to love
Taught me right from wrong
Taught me about God
Helped make me the
Man I am today
Were the love of my life
Until I met my wife

There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you

You were the kindest
Most gentle person
I have ever known

Man I never knew
How much I would miss you
Until you were gone

I love you Mom
Always have
Always will

There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you

May the Lord
Welcome you into
His eternal glory
And ease all your
Pain and suffering

Rest in peace Mom
Until we meet again

Rodeo roping
On a summers eve
Pearly white moon
Imprisoned in the lariat
Nowhere to go
Groaning I pull in my catch

Ranging across the sky
In vivid colors
Nary a cloud in sight
Brought by the rain
Over the earth
Wondrous beauty

Took a trip
On the hallucinogenic highway
Riding in a spaceship

My eyes were blind
Depriving me of my sight
Yet my mind
Wandered all thru the night

Butterflies flit
Into the unlit
Recesses of the brain
A rowboat appeared
Then disappeared
Going down the drain

Then from the deepest pit
Death was seen
Outlined in the light

The highway ended
With a bump
As it bended
Towards the dump

I woke from
My trip
On the spaceship
Vowing never to succumb
To the hallucinogenic highway

Nonetheless I looked
In the mirror
Overcome by fear
I had become faceless

Is There Anybody Out There?

Is there Anybody Out There?

Gazing blissfully at the night sky
A million million pinpricks of light
Are visible to my eye
As they brighten the night

Unaware of the time
Mind pondering
The vastness of the of nighttime

Overcome by the majesty
Of the galaxy
Feelings of smallness wash over me

Standing small and alone
I intone
Is there anybody out there?

Random Thoughts While Walking In The February Sunshine

 Random Thoughts Walking
In the February Sunshine

In the brilliant sunshine
Warm temps
Is this global warming
Maybe, possibly
Is it our Lord
Showing us his glory
I like to think so
In the sunshine

Express emotion
Lugubrious lids

Nauseate no-one
Cheerless children

Shining brightly
Under a blue sky
Nourishing flora
Sun shimmers serenely
Heating up the air
Invigorating life
Natural light is something
Everyone enjoys

Dragon Head

Dragon Head

Dragon head
Oh dragon head
Fantastic beast
Of imagination
Flying through the skies
Breathing fire
Spreading fear
Causing havoc
Now a finely
Crafted sculpture
On a table
A trophy to behold

Reading by the pale moonlight
My mind begins to dream
I take flight
Floating on a moonbeam

Surrounded by trees
I am unconfined
By the vagries
Of my mind

I play the book
Like a piano

A brook flows thru
Yet it has no beginning
Or end
Only a middle

Imaginings of a stimulated mind

I love to read
It can lead

Fish on my plate
Ain’t that great
But wait
There’s a mermaid
I’m dismayed

I wanted fish
Not mermaid
On my dish

Miss You My Friend

Miss You My Friend

One year ago today
My friend passed away

Cancer reared its ugly head
And shred
My friend’s life thread

My memory
Of you
Runs like a documentary
In the recess
Of my mind

I wrote this little ditty
To keep your memory alive
On my internal drive

Miss you Dunk ♥

Getting Old

Getting Old
I’m gettin’ old
My life has passed me by
I am no longer spry
I’m getting’ old

Many moons ago
A younger man was I
Life was slow
And did not fly by

As I grew up
Life began to speedup

Days and years
Came and went
Too many beers
To lament

Now as I prepare
To retire
I offer up a prayer
And do declare

I’m gettin’ old

Morning Prayer

My Morning Prayer
Thank you Lord
For letting me to
Wake to live another day
Please watch over my family…
Especially my wife, Patricia; my mother Annetta;
My brothers Garry and Charlie;
My sisters Carol, Donna, and Michelle;
Niece Emily and nephew Chad
May you keep them and the rest of my family
Safe, comfort them, ease their pain and suffering
And guide them on the path
To your resurrection
I ask this in the name of
Jesus Christ our Lord

My Wife

My Wife
My wife …
Is the love of my life,
the heart of my heart,
the woman of my dreams.

I love her
With all my heart and soul

And I thank the Lord
For letting me
Meet my wife
So long ago

Shelack Hums

Shelack Hums
There once was a detective
Who was very effective
At solving mysteries
With great histories

He used his brain
To ascertain
The guilty factions
So that by his actions
Justice was served
To those who deserved

Shelack Hums is his name
Solving crime is his game
With his partner, Dr. Whitson
No criminal could outrun
The duo
Of Shelack Hums & Dr. Whitson

This poem goes back to my earliest roots as a writer - when friends and I wrote plays in grade 7 or 8 (more than 40 years ago) - about the great detective Shelack Hums. Enjoy☺
